The project to transform Kottayam into a 'Mural city' received a boost today with the cabinet sanctioning an amount of Rs 25 lakh, in addition to Rs 50 lakh already earmarked for the purpose.
The project has been undertaken by the Kerala Lalitkala Academy, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said during a cabinet briefing here.
As per the project schedule, more than 300 mural painters from across the world will paint on public walls, roads, railway stations, government offices, temples, churches and other places in Kottayam, transforming it into a 'Mural city'. Government would preserve all their creations.

Besides traditional and natural colours, artists would also use modern methods, including mosaic, tiles, terracotta and cement, to create their ideas on walls, he added.
