Rs 29.10 cr worth liquor, Rs 12 cr cash seized in Rajasthan

Election Commission-appointed teams seized Rs 12.89 crore cash and registered 31 cases of paid news in Rajasthan where polling for the state Assembly was held today.

According to official data, liquor valued at Rs 29.10 crore, narcotic drugs worth Rs 5.49 crore and other inducements (sarees, gifts) worth Rs 5.68 crore were also seized by the EC-appointed flying squads and surveillance teams in the state.

A total of 31 paid news cases were also registered.

A total of 674 flying squad teams, 641 static surveillance teams, 56 expenditure observers and 200 other assistant expenditure observers were deployed in the state by the EC as part of its measures to curb and check illegal money power being used in the run-up to polls.
 

The expenditure observers were deployed after they were brought on deputation from Income Tax and Customs department.
