Red sander logs worth Rs 35 lakh, meant to be smuggled to Sri Lanka, were seized by customs officials at Muyal Thivu (Hare Island) in the Gulf of Mannar today.
The raid was carried out early this morning on a tip-off that the logs would be smuggled to the island nation, customs officials said.
As per the Indian Trade Classification notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, export of red sanders in any form is prohibited.
