Rs 5.10 lakh in new Rs 2,000 notes seized

A police surveillance team today seized over Rs 5 lakh cash from a man during a vehicle checking drive in Pipalani Katra area here, police said.

The cash was seized from Munnar Shav, a native of East Champaran in Bihar, who was traveling in an autorickshaw from Lahurabir to Chowk market here, they said.

Rs 5.10 lakh cash, in new Rs 2,000 notes, was seized from his possession. He was unable to furnish any valid documents in this regard, police said.

The Income Tax department has been informed about the seizure, they said.

The action was taken in the wake of poll code violation, wherein carrying more than Rs 50,000 cash without valid papers is prohibited, police said.
 

Uttar Pradesh will go to the polls in seven phases from February 11 to March 8.
