The wife of a beef lynching victim in Ramgarh district Friday received Rs 5 lakh compensation from the district judge Vidhan Chandra Chaudhary, official sources said.

Chaudhary handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to Marium Khatoon, wife of the victim Alimuddin Ansari, in presence of senior officials of district administration.

Alimuddin Ansari was lynched by a mob in Ramgarh town for allegedly carrying beef on his vehicle on June 30, 2017.

As many as 11 persons have been convicted in the case with life imprisonment. A Division bench of the Jharkhand high court granted bail to 10 of the 11 convicts.

SK Shukla, additional public prosecuter who appeared in the court during the hearing, said that prosecution had urged the court for the victim's compensation.
