Armed miscreants looted Rs five lakh from an electricity department employee at Daudnagar in Aurangabad district while he was going to deposit the money in bank today.

Police officials said Shyam Kishore was carrying the cash kept in a bag and was riding pillion on a moped to the Daudnagar branch of SBI when they were accosted by two miscreants carrying firearms. They threatened them, snatched the bag and sped away.

"This was carelessness on the part of the employee as he should have informed the police that he was carrying a big amount of government money with him. That he was traveling on a moped is also surprising," said a police official.

The police has detained Kishore on suspicion that he was in nexus with the miscreants. They said that the employee was going to the bank at 4pm, an unusual time as the bank stops its operations at that time.
