The BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit today announced a Rs 5 lakh relief to the family of the party's district youth president, who was allegedly killed by militants in Shopian last week.

The party will press the state government to provide other benefits to the bereaved family, Jammu and Kashmir BJP president and legislator Sat Sharma said.

He was speaking at the BJP's working committee meeting of Jammu west district here.

Thirty-year-old Gowhar Ahmed Bhat was allegedly kidnapped by terrorists. His body was recovered from an orchard in the Kiloora area in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Thursday.

Bhat was associated with the BJP for the last two years and was the district president of the party's yuva morcha (youth wing).

Condemning the killing, Sharma said that the party has announced Rs 5 lakh relief to the family of the deceased.

"Although nothing can fill up his void, the BJP is committed to support his family as he laid his life for a great cause," he said.

The BJP president congratulated party workers on the success of the first ever state working committee meeting in Kashmir last month.

"It is an important event and asserted that people of Kashmir have let down messengers of hatred, welcoming the BJP with open arms," he said.
