Unaccounted cash of Rs 60 lakh was seized from two workers of a jewellery shop here when they came to board a train at the city railway station today, police said.

Railway Protection Force personnel found bundles of currency notes in a baggage of the two during a scanning following their suspicious movements.

The duo, who were detained, told the police that they money had been given by their shop owner for transferring to their branch in Nagercoil.

However, as there was no proper supporting documents for the money transfer, police suspect it could be black money or hawala transaction.

The jewellery shop owner was being interrogated, they said, adding the cash would be handed over to Income Tax department if he did not account for it.
