Rs 7.5 L each handed over to relatives of 8 transport staff

Tamil Nadu Handlooms Minister O S Manian today handed over solatium of Rs 7.5 lakh each to relatives of eight staff of the State Transport Corporation at Porayar, killed when the roof of the room in which they were sleeping collapsed on October 20.

The Minister visited Porayar and handed over the amount to the families.

He also handed over financial assistance to the three crew members who were injured in the incident.

Nagapattinam District Collector C Sureshkumar and other top officials were present.

Meanwhile, Kamaraj, General Secretary of TNSTC's Nethaji Transport Workers Safety Federation, sent representations to the Chief Secretary,Transport Secretary and Labour Commissione Commissioner,demanding legal action against five transport officials
 

Kamaraj alleged that these officials were responsible for the mishap and should face action.

The TNSTC crew members were sleeping in the building, which was constructed in 1952, when it collapsed around 3.30 am on Octobet 20, killing them on the spot.
