Rs 75 lakh worth gold seized; 2 air passengers held

Gold biscuits worth Rs 75 lakh was seized and two persons who arrived from Malayasia arrested by customs officials at the airport today, police said.

Shaukat Ali and Rahamat Ali of the city attempted to pass through the 'Green Channel' of customs, used by passengers who have no dutiable goods to declare, when officials found them carrying around 1 kg of gold biscuits each hidden in their belts.

Police said the duo, who arrived by an Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur, had been detained thrice in the past for attempting to smuggle gold.
