A total of Rs 76.89 crore, suspectedly meant to be used for wooing voters during the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu, was seized by officials and it has been deposited with the State treasury, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said here today.
"Many teams such as flying squads and static surveillance teams were formed and they seized cash of Rs.25,05,89,211 and non-cash items worth Rs. 51,83,54,626 totalling Rs 76,89,43,837," he said.
The non-cash amount which was previously valued at Rs. 27,68,11,829 has been re-evaluated by the expenditure cell and it was based on actual prices and hence revised amount of Rs. 51,83,54,626 has been arrived at, he said.
Stating that the entire process of seizure was video graphed, he said the seized cash and non-cash items were handed over to the treasury.
