Rs 8.3 crore unaccounted-for cash seized in AP

Cyberabad Police here today seized unaccounted-for cash of Rs 8.3 crore from two persons travelling in a bus at Pallamakulla village under the Shamshabad rural police station limits.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a bus going to Hyderabad from Bangalore at about 6.30 am and found that two passengers, Prashant Jitendra Suraya and Darshan, were carrying with them seven bags containing Rs 8.18 crore in bundles of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

Following further interrogation, another Rs 14.5 lakh were seized from Prashant's flat in Kachiguda here, taking the total amount to Rs 8.325 crore, Cyberabad Police Commissioner C V Anand said.
 

Prima facie investigation revealed that the money was to be handed to a jeweller here as a part of hawala transaction, he said.

Police are keeping a watchful eye on movement of cash in the state ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh on April 30.
