Rs.9 cr worth temple land retrieved

Land worth Rs.Nine crore belonging to a temple in the city was today retrieved from an encroacher, who was possessing it for the last four decades.

The 4.27 acre land in Vedapatti on the city outskirts belonged to Bhajane Venkataramanaswami temple here and had been in the illegal possession of one T A Manika Udayar, official sources said.

Action was initiated under the HR and CE Act on February 2 last to retreive the land.

Investigatons revealed that Udayar was illegally possessing the land and utilising its benefits for the last 38 years.

HR and CE officials today took possession of the land and handed it over to the temple trustees, they said.
