RS member moots need for an effective model to combat LWE

A Rajya Sabha members today stressed the need for an effective model to combat left wing extremism (LWE) in the country.

Raising a Special Mention, Dola Sen (TMC) said there was a need for adopting more development-oriented projects to uplift the standard of living of the people in LWE areas.

"We need to adopt an effective model to check LWE in the country and this can be achieved through initiative more development oriented projects in such areas," she added.

Sen said that the West Bengal government has initiated several development projects in the state in LWE areas, which are bearing fruits.
 

Ahamed Hassan (TMC) raised concern over the reduction in the funds allocated by the government for centrally sponsored schemes (CSS) to the states. Some Congress members also associated with it.

Anil Desai (Shiv Sena) wanted effective measures to ensure admission of poor students in private schools under the Right to Education Act.

Harivansh (JD-U) demanded an enquiry into reports regarding the involvement of middlemen to give information about judicial verdicts to corporates and other beneficiaries.

S Muthukaruppan (AIADMK) demanded establishment of the Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulation Committee, while his party colleague Vijila Sathyananth sought passage of the women's reservation bill.

Wansuk Syiem (Congress) demanded constant monitoring of flood situation in West Garo hills region in Meghalaya, while Husain Dalwai (also Cong) raised the issue of alleged siphoning of money meant for the welfare of tribals in Maharashtra.

P L Punia (BJP) demanded adoption of measures for modernisation of mortuaries in the country under the National Health Mission.
