Rajya Sabha today mourned the death of its former member Frida Topno.
Topno, who represented Odisha in the Upper House from April 1998 to April 2004, died on February 6 at the age of 92 years, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said reading out an obituary reference when the House met for the day.
"In passing away of Frida Topno, the country has lost a distinguished parliamentarian and a dedicated social worker," he said.
Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the departed soul.
The chairman also welcomed a parliamentary delegation from Chile, which was seated in the special gallery.
He hoped that during their stay in the country, the delegation would see and learn about Indian parliamentary system as well as its people.
