Independent MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar's representative handed over the cheque to Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh here.

Congratulating the Mumbai police for the speedy arrest of the vandals, Chandrasekhar praised the professionalism, dedication of the Mumbai police and "the excellent work" done by the police team entrusted with apprehending them.

In his letter to Singh, the MP said the Mumbai police force have earned the respect of all citizens who value the ideals of patriotism, bravery and national pride.

He asked the Commissioner to hand over the reward money to the police team responsible for the investigations and arrest of the vandals.

Pained by the desecration of the Amar Jawan Jyoti Memorial during a violent rally organised by an organisation here last month, he had announced the reward to those who provide the police with credible information leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Chandrasekhar had earlier in 2011 lent financial support to repair and reconstruct the memorial of Param Vir Chakra Abdul Hameed, which was lying in a dilapidated state in a village in Uttar Pradesh.
