: Leading RSS ideologue P Parameswaran has welcomed the formation of the World Hindu Economic Forum with Bangkok as its headquarters, terming it as a "timely initiative."

"Formation of the Hindu economic forum is a welcome development and a timely initiative. If properly pursued, it will bring about peace and prosperity not only to Hindu society, but also to the rest of the world," Parameswaran, Director of Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, said in a statement here today.

Its motto 'Dharmasya Moolam Arthah-- the root of wealth is Dharma-- truly reflected its Indian psyche, he said.

Parameswaran said it was a well established fact of history that till the advent of the British and their exploitation of Indian wealth, it was India that dominated the economic world for a period of not less than 3000 years.

In fact, most foreign invasions of India were prompted by the affluence of the country. One key factor, that of the prosperity of India through history had been that it was not based on exploitation.

On the other hand, the Indian economy developed on the basis of sound moral and ethical values combined with a well ordered system of mutual help and cooperation among individuals and countries, he said.

"The British rulers destroyed the fabric of Indian economic system as they did with its educational system. Now the world expects that India would regain her honourable place in the comity of nations," he said.

An organised and well coordinated economic effort from all sections of Hindu society could make India a World Economic Power based on cooperation and goodwill, totally free from exploitation, Parameswaran added.
