Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has reached out to about 20 per cent of villges in Punjab as a part of its membership expanding drive.
Replying to a question on 'ghar wapasi' programme, Brigadier Jagdish Gagneja, the Sahsanghchalak of Punjab RSS unit, said Sangh's 'Dharm Jagran Vibhag' is continuing with the campaign.
"We have reached 20 per cent villages in the state. The work of setting up shakhas would continue in the rural areas as people are attending them in huge numbers and evincing interest," Gagneja said.
"In 2013-14, we set up shakhas at 321 places in the state and the numbers grew to 351 in 2014-15," Gagneja said.
Asked about reported opposition from the ruling SAD, Gagneja said they are not facing any opposition and the people of rural areas are continuously joining them but added that they were facing opposition from a few local leaders.
Replying to a question, he said although no special campaign is being run against drugs, but they try to make the shakha participants aware about the same.
