Puducherry Education Minister R Kamalakannan today announced that the government was implementing the Right to Education Act in a phased manner in the Union Territory.
He was responding to a question tabled by DMK MLA R Siva during the question hour in the assembly.
Disputing the claim of the Minister that the Act was being implemented in a phased manner, the opposition AIADMK MLA A Anbalagan said, the Puducherry government was doing injustice to the poor children by failing to enforce the Act.

"It is not available in Puducherry. The government should take steps to enforce the Act properly," he said.
In response, Kamalakannan said the government was taking care of education of the poor children as it was their social responsibility to carry out the task.
DML MLA Siva also pointed out that private schools were levying donations ranging between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh for admission to pre primary classes.
He sought the government to look into the matter.
