Odisha's anti-corruption vigilance wing today arrested the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Balasore for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Amaresh Kumar Patra was held for being in possession of assets "amounting to Rs 1,27,78,792, which is more than 216 per cent" beyond his known income sources, a vigilance release said.

Patra failed to satisfactorily explain about such huge disproportionate assets, it said.

In this connection, the vigilance wing had conducted search operations simultaneously at several places including Patra's residential, rented and parental houses located at Cuttack, Balasore and Firkidandi in Kendrapara district on October 25, it said, adding, the office room of the RTO was also searched.
