The Maharashtra Legislative Council had to be adjourned for the day today without conducting any routine business due to chaotic scenes as the opposition raised the issue of allegations of corruption and malpractices against the BJP ministers.

As soon as the routine proceedings started following a special session on the calling-attention motion, opposition members started chanting anti-government slogans, raised placards and entered the well of the house demanding resignation of the ministers who are facing allegations.

BJP MLCs too shouted slogans and raised placards demanding the arrest of "middlemen" in the Telgi stamp-paper scam of late 1990s.

The placards brought by opposition referred to procurement of 'chikki' snack by the women and child welfare department (under Pankaja Munde) without calling for tenders, alleged bogus degree of education minister Vinod Tawde, educational qualification of water supply minister Babanrao Lonikar and allegations against minister of state for home Ranjit Patil for having his name in voters' lists in two constituencies.

Amid the pandemonium, chairman Ramraje Nimbalkar adjourned the house for 20 minutes.

When the house re-assembled, the opposition continued shouting slogans and displayed placards saying 'Dal mein kaala hai, Chikki mein ghotala hai' (something is fishy about chikki)' and 'gali gali mein shor hai BJP-Shiv Sena chor hai'.

Following the ruckus, the house was once again adjourned for 40 minutes. When both sides failed to reach any truce, the house was adjourned for the day.
