Rules for maintenance of parents and senior citizens soon: Min

The Uttar Pradesh government today said that it was framing rules under Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 which would come in next one to two months.

"Draft rules are ready, which has been sent to legislative and it will come in one to two months," Social Welfare Minister Avadhesh Prasad said in a reply to a question in Vidhan Sabha.

The minister said that the state government has adopted the act in September last year.

He said that under the provisions of the act inheritors of the property of senior citizens have been made responsible for their maintenance.
 

Prasad said that in case of destitute, issue less senior citizens the state government was expected to set up old age homes and make necessary arrangements.

The government was working in this direction and would make all arrangements, he added.
