A ruling AINRC MLA in the union territory today caused a flutter by leading a dharna at the office of a Minister, protesting 'delay' in grant of housing subsidy for Adi Dravidar (Dalits) community members of his constituency.
In an unannounced move, G Nehru, representing Orleanpeth assembly segment, along with a group of people from his constituency arrived at the office of Welfare Minister P Rajavelu in the assembly complex to take up with him the demand for housing subsidy.
As he was informed that the Minister was away at a function, the MLA sat in a dharna along with the people of his constituency, causing a flutter.

On hearing about the MLA's agitation, the Minister rushed to his office and assured Nehru of necessary action following which the protest was given up.
Nehru said 38 families belonging to Adi Dravidar community in his constituency were yet to get the subsidy of Rs four lakh for constructing concrete houses to replace huts although they had presented the requisite applications several months ago.
