'Run for Unity' held in Uttar Pradesh

Union Minister for Water Resource and River Development Uma Bharati today led 'Run for Unity' here on the 139th birth anniversary of the first Home Minister of the country Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

Bharati administered the oath of maintaining unity, integrity and security of the country to the people, and said the nation was heading towards progess under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The run which started from Shaheed Smarak, culminated at Patel's statue near GPO park in Hazratganj.

BJP State President Laxmikant Bajpai said the run was a true tribute to Sardar Patel and the participation of all sections of society indicated that the people were committed to taking it on the path of progress and development.
 

BJP National Vice-President and city Mayor Dinesh Sharma said with the slogan "Daudega Bharat-Judega Bharat" the common man was committed to unity and integrity of the country.

Party's national spokesman Sudhanshu Trivedi said the run was being organised at divisional level across the country.

There was a moment during the run when Bharati lost her balance and staggered but the minister later clarified that she had some knee problem.

Similar events were organised in other districts of Uttar Pradesh. In Deoria district, Union Minister Kalraj Mishra along with state spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak led the run.

In Amethi, BJP activists held rallies and meetings paying tribute to Sardar Patel, and participated in the run.

In Kanpur,'Run for Unity' programme was organised at 22 locations which was attended by over a thousand people including students, lawyers and teachers, BJP leader Surendra Methani said. The main event was organised at Motijheel park. IIT Kanpur students also participated in the programme.
