Runaway accused from Punjab held in Nashik after 19 yrs

A 45-year-old man from Punjab, who has been absconding for the last 19 years in a case of abducting and raping a minor girl in his home state in 1998, was arrested from Deolali Camp area near here today, the police said.

A joint squad of the Punjab and Haryana Police located and picked up Sukhdev Singh from Lahvitgaon, where he has been staying since the last two years, a local police official said.

Singh hails from Hoshiyarpur district of Punjab.

DCP Vijay Magar said Singh had been evading arrest for long and always managed the police to give a slip.
 

Singh was produced before a magistrate who granted his transit remand to the Punjab Police.
