A 17-year-old boy who ran away from his home at Mira Road here last month has been traced to Pune and reunited with his family, police said today.

The boy, a son of a builder in Mira Road, had left his house on August 21 along with his belongings like laptop and motorcycle as he "wanted to do something in his life on his own," they said quoting the teenager.

When the boy did not return and was unapproachable over phone, his worried parents approached the Bhayander police in Thane, fearing that he might have been abducted, DCP (Crime) Parag Manere said.

The case was later taken up by the anti-extortion cell of police, who traced the boy to Pune and reunited him with his family on Friday, he said.

The teenager told police that he was doing a job for Rs 5,000 and had left his house to earn a living on his own.

The boy, however, said he did not realise the pain that his parents might have undergone due to his sudden disappearance.
