Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today inaugurated an exclusive industrial park for women entrepreneurs near here and also handed over 102 plots for setting up manufacturing units for women.

The first Women's Industrial Park of Gujarat spread over 18.32 hectare is located on the outskirts of the city and near the industrial town of Sanand.

"Women have come out of their image of a homemaker and have emerged as successful managers of business and industry. Gujarat has provided favourable opportunity to women to start their own units, ranging from small cottage industry and soft skills to large engineering and manufacturing units," Rupani at the inauguration.

Congratulating the women entrepreneurs while handing over the plots to them for setting up manufacturing units at the industrial park, the chief minister said, "The units that will come up at the park, will provide jobs to at least 5,000 women workers from nearby villages."

"Several industries have been set up at the Sanand Industrial Estate spread over 2,056 hectares, thus silencing the political adversaries, who were bent on making Sanand another Singur," Rupani said.

According to him, there are nearly 200 industrial estates in the state, which is known for "zero lockout and industrial peace".

Rupani went on to list the initiatives that the BJP government has taken for the development of women in Gujarat.

He announced that the state government would arrange a series of Mahila Rojgar Melas (Women's Employment Fair), to encourage women's empowerment and create more job opportunities for them.

He also said that Gujarat had prepared a gender budget worth Rs 56,000 crore and created 653 women's welfare schemes and also handed over dairy management to Sakhi Mandals, with membership of over three lakhs women.

"We have also increased women's quota to 50 per cent in local self-government institutions, created 33 per cent posts in the police force for women and waived entire tuition fees for women in medical colleges," Rupani said.
