The rupee weakened by 10 paise to quote at 67.65 against the dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market today on fresh demand for the American currency from importers and banks.

The dollar was firm against some global currencies, which weighed on the rupee, but a higher opening of the domestic equity market capped the losses, dealers said.

Yesterday, the local currency jumped 52 paise to log its biggest single day gain this year and ended at 67.55 on fresh selling of dollars by banks and exporters, helped by a recovery in equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose further by 58.56 points, or 0.24%, to 24,396.99 in early trade.
