A sub-divisional officer posted with Rural Engineering Services department in Khilchipur village here was he was caught red-handed while he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor today, Lokayukta Police said.
Lokeshwar Jharbade had demanded the bribe from the contractor for clearing his payment of Rs 27 lakh for the construction of a local market (Haat Bazar) in Jhadmau village under Zeerapur Janpad Panchayat area, Lokayukta Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) N S Rathore said.
Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid and Jharbade was nabbed red-handed accepting Rs 10,000 bribe in Zeerapur town, he said.
A case under Prevention of Corruption Act was lodged against the officer and further investigations are on.
