Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today said rural sports infrastructure must be improved to encourage and nurture sporting talents in the interior and remote areas of the state.
"The state government is keen to develop sporting facilities in the rural areas of the state and plans are in place to carry out work towards this direction," the Chief Minister said at a meeting in Dibrugarh today.
Sonowal directed senior officials of Sports and Youth Welfare, Public Works Department and Cultural Affairs departments to initiate action for developing rural sporting infrastructure in a planned manner.

Issues related to the proposed sports complex at Bindhakata Mulukgaon in Dibrugarh district were discussed and the Chief Minister directed Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner along with all other officials responsible for the construction of the sports complex to ensure timely completion of the project.
The Chief Minister also reviewed activities of Sports and Youth Welfare, PWD and Cultural Affairs departments of Dibrugarh district.
The meeting was attended by Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika, Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Loya Madhuri and other senior officials of various departments.
