Actor Russell Crowe will make his directorial debut with 'The Water Diviner' and will also star in the film.

The movie is set in 1919 and centres on an Australian man who travels to Turkey to find his two sons after they go missing in the battle of Gallipoli, reported Deadline.

The drama was written by Andrew Knight and Andrew Anastasios and is set to be filmed in both Crowe's native Australia and Turkey.

Hopscotch Features' Troy Lum and Andrew Mason are set to produce the film alongside Keith Rodger from Fear of God Films.

49-year-old Crowe's most recent role sees him play Jor-El, Superman's biological father, in summer blockbuster 'Man of Steel'.

The 'Les Miserables' star will next be seen in Oscar-winning director Darren Aronofsky's 'Noah', which is set on the Biblical tale of Noah's Ark.

The film co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth.
