Russia has expressed its readiness to to cooperate with the new Bangladesh government to be formed after the controversial polls amid US call for fresh elections that would include all major parities.

"Russia confirms that it is ready to continue constructive partnership with a government, which will be formed soon," media reports said here quoting a Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

It also regretted that key opposition parties in Bangladesh boycotted the parliamentary elections.

"We hope that the authorities and the opposition will not go beyond the Constitution in order to ensure stability and strengthen democratic institutions in the country," the statement read.

The statement came as western nations criticised the polls in the country with the US questioning its legitimacy calling for fresh inclusive elections.

The Russian endorsement came as new Awami League-led government is set to be sworn in tomorrow after it swept the January 5 polls with three-fourths majority following a boycott by the opposition.

The major opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its allies boycotted the poll, alleging free and fair elections could not be held under Awami rule.
