Russian authorities join relief efforts for Ukd mishap victims

Russian authorities have joined the relief efforts for the surviving victims of an accident involving its 13 nationals who were travelling in a vehicle which fell into Bhagirathi River in Uttarakhand yesterday.

"Six Russians have been flown to the national capital for treatment. Russian embassy here is in constant touch with the External Affairs Ministry, Uttrakhand government and local police even as search for one missing is on. We are also in touch with the families of the two killed in the accident," Tatiana Kopylova, the press attache in the Russian Embassy here, said today.

Four of the Russians received minor injuries and were treated in Uttarakhand only, she said.
 

Meanwhile, External Affairs Ministry said it was providing all assistance to the Russians tourists belonging largely to ISKCON, International Society for (Lord) Krishna Consciousness.

The mishap occurred at Bhagori village in Uttarkashi district on Rishikesh-Gangotri National Highway yesterday afternoon, a senior local police official said.

The tempo fell into Bhagirathi, a tributary of the Ganga, as its driver, an Indian from Rishikesh, lost control of the vehicle, he said.

Bodies of two Russians, one of them a woman, have been recovered.
