Russian woman held for illegal stay in Goa

A Russian woman was arrested by the Calangute Police today on charge of staying illegally in the state without valid documents.

Mitina Yulia Svetlav is currently staying at Maddowado village near the famous Calangute beach.

According to a police official, Svetlav didn't have a valid passport, any supportive travel document or visa.

"After receiving information about the a Russian woman staying illegally in Calangute area, the police officials were directed to verify the same. During verification, it was revealed that the woman was staying along with a person Austin D'souza at his residence without any documentation," Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi told reporters.
 

The woman was booked under various provisions of The Passport (Entry into India) Act and under Passport Rules and Foreigners Act.

"Information about her arrest was forwarded to the concerned embassy," he said, adding that Svetlav was remanded in judicial custody by the local court.
