A 21-year-old woman from Rwanda, who was allegedly abducted by three suspected Nigerian nationals was today rescued by a Delhi Police team from Jadavpur in Kolkata.

While one of the accused, identified as Ifeanyi Samuel, has been arrested by the police, his two accomplices are still at large, a senior police official said.

The Rwandan woman was allegedly abducted by the trio around three days ago and the accused demanded USD 3,000 as ranson for her release. The woman was held captive at a flat in Jadavpur, from where Samuel was arrested, the official said.

Around 1 AM on Tuesday, Emile Mwepesi, the Second Counselor of Rwanda High Commission filed a complaint in connection with the incident, following which investigation was taken up, the official said.

The woman had called up her fiance, who lives in the US, for help and it was him who communicated the matter to the High Commission's office here, said the official.

Her fiance knew her last location to be Delhi, police added.

"Three separate police teams were formed and through technical surveillance they traced the location of the mobile phone used by the woman to contact her fiance, in Kolkata," a senior official said.

Further investigation disclosed that the woman had moved through Bangalore and some places in Tamil Nadu before last being tracked at Kolkata. Teams were sent to three different states and the team sent to Kolkata finally rescued the woman, said police.

In her statement, the woman told the police that it was on December 4 she arrived at Kolkata by a flight from Bangalore, police said.

The arrested person is being brought to Delhi on transit remand, along with the woman. Further questioning is necessary to connect the several missing links in the case, the official added.
