A middle-aged woman and her daughter-in-law were arrested after which Delhi police today claimed to have busted a 'Saas-Bahu' gang which used to rob households by working there as maids.

According to the police, Sundari (45) and Seema, alias Shobha Devi (25), both residents of Bihar, were arrested from Bhagalpur district of Bihar. Police recovered jewellery worth more than Rs 2 lakh from their possession.

The duo came under the police scanner on June 9 after one Renu Malhotra reported that two women, namely Seema and Sundari, came to her house on the pretext of providing services as domestic maids. The duo sat in the bedroom when the complainant went to the washroom.

When she came back, the two women had vanished and the almirah in the bedroom was found open and the jewellery box, which contained some diamond and gold, found stolen, police said.

Following investigation, police zeroed in on the two women, following which they were nabbed from Bhagalpur, Bihar. The stolen diamond and gold jewelleries were recovered from their possession. The two ladies were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate and transit remand was obtained, police said.
