The longest-running television variety series "Sabado Gigante" is coming to an end after 53 seasons.

Univision announced that the Spanish-language weekly series would have its last episode aired on September 19, reported Ace Showbiz.

Univision won't explain the reasons behind the show's cancellation.

Hosted by Chilean actor Mario Kreutzberger who calls himself Don Francisco, the longest-running television variety series in history features a mix of talent shows, sketch comedy, beauty pageants, and dance contests.

"It's with no small amount of emotion that I'm announcing that after 53 years, the hit show 'Sabado Gigante' is ending," Kreutzberger said.

"30 of those years were possible thanks to Univision in the United States."

The show, originated by Kreutzberger, first aired under the moniker "Show Dominical" in 1962 on Canal 13 in Chile. It moved to another Chilean channel in 1963 and was renamed "Sabados Gigantes". The show then moved to Univision in 1986 and has been since called "Sabado Gigante".
