Sabarmati Ashram Trust announces fellowship programme

The Sabarmati Ashram Trust today announced a fellowship programme for research on "life, thought and impact of M K Gandhi and the Indian National Movement."

As per the Trust's website, the Sabarmati fellow programme will be "a residential programme for scholars and practitioners, including writers, artists and performers, for research and writing on the broad thematic of life, thought and impact of M K Gandhi and the Indian National Movement".

"We are announcing the fellowship for the first time. It is especially targeted at young scholars who will be given opportunities to use facilities available at Sabarmati Ashram", Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust (SAPMT) director Tridip Suhrud told PTI.
 

"The Ashram has the world's largest collection of original papers related to Mahatma Gandhi and a large library on (Mahatma) Gandhi, which scholars world over have been using. We wanted to formalise the process and also make facilities available to younger scholars," Suhrud added.

As per the website, the term of Sabarmati fellowship will be between one and three months, and would carry a scholarship of Rs 25,000 per month.

"The fellowship programme is a part of the idea of developing the ashram as a place for research," Suhrud said.

The fellows will be expected to give one seminar at the Ashram upon joining and one before the expiry of the term of fellowship and submit a report of work done at the expiry of the fellowship.
