Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh units of the Congress got new chiefs. Sachin Pilot (36) and Arun Yadav (39) were appointed Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chiefs of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, respectively.
The PCC chiefs of Chhattisgarh and Delhi were replaced in a week of the polls. The appointment is seen as a direct fallout of party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s emphasis on younger faces. The increase in the number of voters in the age group of 18 to 25 could be another reason.
Yadav is the son of Subhash Yadav, former deputy chief minister. The relative newcomer was elevated in Madhya Pradesh as factionalism kept Jyotiraditya Scindia, Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath out.
Pilot’s appointment, sources said, faced stiff opposition from the Meenas; Pilot is a Gujjar. But that he has Gandhi’s ears and that he is seen as an acceptable face in the faction-ridden unit helped.
