SAD today charged Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa with trying to provide "escape route" to a drug smuggler by demanding CBI probe into a multi-crore drug racket instead of investigation by state police.
"Congress is speaking through a person who is the political overlord chosen by the dangerous mafia to lend social respectability and legal cover to drug dons including Jagdish Singh Bhola," senior SAD leaders Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Maheshiner Singh Grewal said at a joint press conference here.
Congress is demanding CBI probe into the drug racket case especially after alleged smuggler Bhola claimed state Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia's involvement, a charge denied by the minister.

The SAD leaders also produced what they called "clinching evidence" of the "political cover" provided to Bhola allegedly by the successive Congress governments in and outside Punjab, whenever the SAD-BJP government got after him.
On the credibility of CBI, the Akali leaders lashed out against Bajwa's demand for "honouring the wishes of a criminal like Bhola on a probe by the central agency ... CBI's credibility needs no comment after the Supreme Court indicted it as a caged parrot of Government of India.
