A joint delegation of Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP will meet the Chief Election Commissioner in Delhi tomorrow, seeking an independent inquiry into "false" cases registered against Akali leaders in Gurdaspur district.

BJP president and Union minister Vijap Sampla will lead the delegation.

SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said two "false" FIR's have been registered against Akali leaders Sucha Singh Langah, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Sukhbir Singh Walha and others on August 20 and 21 in Gurdaspur district.

According to the FIRs, the leaders have been charged with stopping the police from performing duty at a gurdwara in Kahnuwan area.

But Cheema said the leaders have been booked on the directions of the ruling Congress party ahead of the Lok Sabha bypoll in Gurdaspur on October 11.

The SAD-BJP delegation will apprise the Commission of the motives of the ruling Congress party to keep the leaders away from the election campaign through these cases, Cheema said.

"We will demand an independent inquiry by the CEC and immediate cancellation of both the FIR's as well as action against the officers who have registered false FIR's against the Akali leaders in malafide manner to please their political bosses," he said.

Senior Akali leaders Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Naresh Gujral, and BJP leaders Madan Mohan Mittal and Shavet Malik will accompany Sampla.
