Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal today lent its support to the decision of the Akal Takht for reconstruction of historic Gurdwara Sri Gian Godri Sahib at Haridwar in Uttrakhand.

He urged the leaders and the workers of the party to comply with the directive of the Akal Takht (the highest temporal seat for Sikhs)- to recite 'Japuji Sahib' followed by 'Ardaas' - and participate in their recitation on May 14 at 9 am in Gurdwara Sahibs in their respective localities.

Guru Nanak Dev had visited Gurdwara Sri Gian Godri Sahib on Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar.

In a statement here today, the SAD President said the feelings of Sikhs residing in every part of the world are linked to the historical place.

"Everybody is concerned that this Gurdwara was demolished in 1979 and the Sikhs were not allowed to reconstruct it," he said.

"It is a very emotive and serious issue for the Sikh community and representative bodies of Sikhs - Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management committee (DSGMC) - have jointly initiated efforts to get back the land and reconstruct it," Sukhbir said.
