Sadhvi Sindhooran Devi cremated

Sadhvi Sindhooran Devi, Head of the all-women 'Shri Sindhoora Devi temple' who died last Monday, was cremated here today.

She was 83.

Reverentially called 'Guru Maa' and having a large following in and outside the country, she died at a Ludhiana hospital, a disciple close to her said.

She was critically ill and was on ventilator for the last two months.

Nirmala Behanji (also called chhote guru) lit Sadhvi's pyre in presence of hundreds of her devotees.

Devi inspired people to work for the unity of the country and preserve its traditions and culture, besides promoting women empowerment by setting up the all-women temple.
 

Entry to the temple is restricted for men throughout the year but its doors are thrown open for them once on Krishan Janam Ashtami.
