SAG Torch arrives in Guwahati

The torch of the 12th South Asian Games (SAG), to be held in Guwahati and Shillong from February 5, arrived here today.

The torch was received at Mawiong by SAG-Shillong CEO R K Sharma along with officials of the organizing committee of the Games.

It was taken to the premier Games venue and around the city by renowned sportsperson Linza F Syiem and Lekini Suting.

The torch will also take part in the 'Run for North East Mini-marathon' tomorrow which coincides with the statehood day before being taken back to Guwahati for the second half of the 'Run for North East' scheduled on Friday.
 

The SAG statement said that the torch will travel to all eight states of the region. Over 3,000 athletes from eight member countries Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan are expected to participate in the 12th SAG in Assam and Meghalaya.
