Sahana Kumari wins gold in Railways Athletics

National record holder Sahana Kumari won gold in the women's high jump on the second day of the 79th Railways Athletics Championships here today.

Sahana, a London Olympian and representing South Western Railways, cleared a modest 1.76m to win gold at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. She holds the national record of 1.92m.

N Manikandaraj of South Central Railways and Merlin K Joseph of Western Railways became the fastest male and female athletes of the championships.

The Results:

Men's Hammer Throw: 1. Talwinder Singh, (DMW Patiala) 62.49m; 2. Azad Ahmed (South Western Railway) 61.86m; 3. Sukhdev Singh (Northern Railway) 58.87m.

Men's 20000m Walk: 1. Maniram Patel (Western Railway) 1:32:20.21; 2. Romit (Western Railway) 1:38:52.42; 3. Ashok Patel (South East Central Railways) 1:45:51.17.
 

Men's Javelin Throw: 1. Rajender Singh (North Western Railway) 71.00m; 2. Sharth Raj (Southern Railway) 66.99m; 3. K N Tripathi (North Central Railway) 65.31m.

Men's 110m Hurdles: 1. A Suresh (ICF 14.23); 2. Pinto Mathew (Western Railway) 14.56; 3. Muthusamy (Southern Rrailway) 15.05.

Men's 100m: 1. N Manikandaraj (South Central Railway) 10.59; 2. Ganesh Satpute (Central Railway) 10.76; 3. Manikanda Arumugam (Southern Railway) 10.76.

Women's High Jump: 1. Sahana Kumari (South Western Railway) 1.76m; 2. Mallika Mondal (Eastern Railway) 1.70m; 3. N K Siji (Western Railway) 1.65m.

Women's 100m: 1. Merlin K Joseph (Western Railway) 11.84; 2. N Shardha (Southern Railway) 12.03; 3. Asha Roy (Eastern Railway) 12.14.

Women's Triple Jump: 1. M A Prajusha (South Western Railway) 13.29m; 2. Amita Baby (Central Railway) 12.46m; 3. V Neena (Western Railway) 12.05m.
