The police today arrested Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Susant Roy (45) on charges of sexually assaulting a female trainee athlete of the local SAI hostel here.

The minor girl yesterday lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station alleging that the coach had been mentally and sexually assaulting her for past several days.

The police then registered a case under several sections of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

"During preliminary enquiries it was revealed that there are prima facie evidences against the accused and the coach was arrested," said Mahila police station inspector Sakuntala Pati.

Refusing to divulge the details of police investigation as it is a very sensitive matter, the inspector said the investigation is still continuing.

Police yesterday said the coach denied that he had sexually assaulted her but admitted to slapping the athlete twice as an act of reprimand for certain wrong doings by her.
