Saifai Sports College renamed as Dhyanchand Sports College

The UP government has decided to rename the Saifai Sports College in the native village of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav as Dhyanchand Sports College, days after doing away with the 'Samajwadi' tag in several schemes of the Akhilesh government

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made an announcement in this regard while paying tributes to the hockey wizard on the occasion of sports day in Lucknow yesterday.

Saifai Sports College will now be known as Major Dhayanchand Sports College, the chief minister said.

Earlier the BJP government had renamed airports, railway stationS and dropped the prefix 'Samajwadi' from the names of ongoing government schemes and projects.
 

Samajwadi Poorvanchal Expressway, the eight-lane highway to connect Lucknow with Ballia via Azamgarh, has already been renamed as Poorvanchal Expressway while the 'Samajwadi' word has also been dropped from the Samajwadi Ambulance Service - a pet project of previous chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The Samajwadi Pension Scheme has already become Mukhya Mantri Pension Scheme.

To commemorate BJP ideologues, the government has already proposed renaming of the airport terminal in Gorakhpur after Mahayogi Gorakhnath and Agra airport after BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

The proposal for renaming the two terminals has been sent to the Centre after the state cabinet passed such a resolution.

The government also proposed to change the name of the Mughalsarai station near Varanasi after Upadhyaya.

The chief minister at yesterday's function also announced cash rewards for Olympic medal winners belonging to the state on the lines of those given by the Central government with the gold medal winner getting Rs. 6 crore, silver medal winner Rs. 4 crore and bronze medallists Rs.2 crore.

The chief minister, who presented Laxman and Rani Laxmibai awards to 14 sportspersons, said that Asian games and Commonwealth winners will also be rewarded on the lines of the rewards given by the central government.
