Major Singh, one of the six crew members rescued from stranded ship Kamal XL, today returned home after spending weeks marooned on the vessel off the shores of Kandla port in Gujarat.
30 crew members are still stranded on the vessel and efforts are on to rescue them, said H S Tanwar, Secretary General of Akhil Bharatiya Human Rights Organisation (ABHRO).
Singh along with 35 others got stuck off the shores of Kandla port as the main engines of the ship broke down and were dismantled for the repairs.
The ship without the engines was insecure as their was no power on board and weather had gone unpredictable which could lead to the sinking of the ship.
Yesterday, six crew members were rescued from the ship, owned by Jaisu Shipping Co Pvt Ltd.
Singh was warmly received by his family members and H S Tanwar.
Throwing light on the incident, Tanwar said they had received the complaint on April 6, and then ABHRO took up the matter with Pakistani human rights activist and former Minister Ansar Burney's law firm as well as Ministry of shipping, SC Commission, Government of India so that the pressure could be built up on the shipping company.
After the combined efforts, salaries and other benefits were released to the crew members.
"Six crew members out of 36 have reached home safely," said Tanwar.
Tanwar said that now the company has assured that rest of the members would reach home before April 30.
