A sailor allegedly committed suicide onboard INS Mysore here today by shooting himself in his head with his rifle, police said.
The sailor, identified as Navin Yadav, was found in a pool of blood by his colleagues who rushed him to Ashwini Hospital in Colaba, Additional Commissioner of Police Krishna Prakash said.
Yadav was declared dead before admission to the defence hospital, he said.
"Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. A case of accidental death has been registered at Colaba police station," the ACP said.
