Glass firm Saint Gobain Sekurit India has decided to shut down its plant in Maharashtra with effect from today as the facility had become economically unviable.
"It has been decided to close the Bhosari plant of the company with effect from the close of business hours on November 30 2015, as it is economically unviable to continue the operations of this plant," Saint Gobain said in a BSE filing.
The company had earlier on August 31 informed about its decision to shut the plant.
Last year, the company's promoter group firm Saint-Gobain Glass India said it will open a glass plant at Bhiwadi in Haryana next week with an investment of USD 185 million (Rs 1,000 crore) to strengthen its position in India's glass market.
Spread over 136 acres, the plant with manufacturing capacity of close to 1,000 tonne glass a day is going to be Asia's largest facility, Saint-Gobain had said.
Saint-Gobain has manufacturing facilities at Jhagadia in Gujarat, Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu and a R&D centre at Chennai.
Saint-Gobain Glass India is a subsidiary of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, which is a world leader.
